David Maxwell

BAXTER-Funeral services for Mr. David Wood Maxwell, Jr., age 94 of Baxter, will be held Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the Baxter chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Homes. Pastor Rick Burnett will officiate. Interment with military honors rendered by the Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Samuel Maxwell Cemetery. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the Baxter chapel. Mr. Maxwell died Saturday March 7, 2020 at his residence. He was born September 12, 1925 in Putnam County, TN to the late David Wood Maxwell, Sr. and Dona Myrtle Wilkerson Maxwell. He was a graduate of Putnam County High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and was a World War II Veteran. He was employed with the Chrysler Corporation's Engine plant in Trenton, Michigan, working as an inspector for over 30 years until his retirement. He returned home to Baxter in 1977. He was a longtime member of Baxter United Methodist Church and had attended Crossroads Community Church for the past year. Mr. Maxwell was a devoted family man. He lived a long and active life, he enjoyed dancing in recent years and enjoyed doing mission work in recent months. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty J. Markley Maxwell; son, David Maxwell; and by brothers, Virgil Maxwell, Johnny Maxwell, David Y. Maxwell, Ewin Maxwell, Paschal Maxwell and Charlie Maxwell; and by sisters, Mary Jane Taylor, Vinnie Myatt, Ella Davis, Laura Maxwell, Estelle Birdwell, Maynell Howell, Margaret Maxwell and Willie Maxwell. He is survived by daughter, Donna Taylor and husband Rick of Baxter; grandchildren, Betty (Brian) Thurman, Daniel Jones, Noah Jones, Sarah Jones and Alice Attard, great grandaughters, Sidney (Dustin) Pardue and Emily Maxwell; two great great granddaughters; and by a sweet companion, Ezelle Stephenson.
