David Barrett

October 5, 1949 — June 9, 2024

David Gardiner Barrett, 74, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed from this life to his heavenly home on June 9, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He loved worshipping and praising his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. David loved his family and cherished and encouraged each person individually. He loved finding any reason to celebrate and enjoy life with friends and family. David was always generous and found his greatest joy in blessing others. He was a dreamer and loved helping others find their dream too. Through his two main careers as a financial planner and real estate agent, he spent his time and energy helping others. He also loved hunting, listening to gospel music, eating delicious food, playing cards and marbles, and traveling much as he possibly could. David was a proud Tennessee Tech alumni and US Army veteran.

David was born in Aux Caye, Haiti to missionary parents, Charles and Doris Barrett. He grew up in Birchwood, TN with his brother Charles Barrett (Sue) and sister Kathy McCabe (Gary). He was happily married to the love of his life, Joan Ashburn Barrett, for 54 years. He is the father to Becky Barrett Terry (Craig) and Kenny Barrett (Lauren). He has six grandchildren: Ashley Streeter Thompson (Tyler), Barrett Streeter (Ashlyn), Ava Barrett, Brennley Barrett, Everley Barrett, and Reed Barrett. He also has two great grandchildren: Paisley Thompson and Ace Thompson.
