Funeral services for Mr. Cordell "Papa" Dowell, 86 of Algood, will be Tuesday, February 14 at 12 Noon at McClellan Avenue Church of Christ with Scottie Roberts officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Algood Heritage Cemetery. Mr. Dowell departed this life Friday morning February 10, 2017 at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County in Algood. He was born March 30, 1930 in Alexandria, TN to the late James Moore and Inez Sadler. He was a graduate of Darwin High School. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Cordell worked as a cook at Tennessee Tech for several years. He also worked at Rose's Department Store and at also as a nurse's aid at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He had a passion for collecting and building model airplanes. He was a life-long member at McClellan Avenue Church of Christ In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Mary Flossie Click Dowell; son Barry Dowell; sister, Betty Sadler; and by step-daughter, Beverly Sadler. Survivors include his children, daughter, Anita Carter of Cookeville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Renee Dowell of Goodyear, Arizona, Cordell Dowell, Jr. of Cookeville and Jeffrey and Martha Dowell of Fridley, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kimberly Carter, Jasmine Tubbs, Jeffrey Dowell Jr., Elizabeth Dowell, Emily Dowell, Joseph Dowell, Michael Dowell, Althea Dowell, Mariah Dowell, Deira Dowell, Sherry Sadler, Melinda Wilson, Christopher Sadler, Michelle Lauer and Deanna Gibson; a host of great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Cordell's family will receive friends at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home on Monday from 5 to 7 PM and at the church Tuesday from 11 AM to 12 Noon. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie King Wester, Sr. and Bro. William Howard. Active pallbearers will be Freddie McClennnon, Ronnie Myers, Chris Sadler, Robbie League, Alan Dowell, and Jeffrey Dowell.
