Chuck Carter

May 2, 1938 — July 2, 2024

Charles Evert Carter, affectionately known as Chuck, passed away on July 2, 2024, at Tri Star Summit Medical Center in Hermitage, TN. He was born on May 2, 1938, in Ironton, OH to the late Andrew Jackson and Shirley Moore Carter. Chuck led a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and commitment to excellence in his profession.


After completing his education at the Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home (OSSO), Chuck joined the ranks of the United States Navy in 1959 and achieved the rank of E-8 during his active duty, which concluded in 1963. He then was E-8 on reserve duty. His patriotic spirit remained strong as he continued to serve in the reserves for more than three decades. Following his military career, he then retired from a successful position at DURIRON in Cookeville.


Chuck leaves behind a legacy anchored in family, with daughters Kim (James) Wright of Cookeville and Melissa (Cary) Hogan of Mount Juliet, grandchildren Anessa (Luke) Tosh, Caleb, Cameron, Carter "CJ," and Chloe Hogan, and a cherished great-grandchild, Oliver Clive Tosh. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember his guidance and affection.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Waters Carter, whom he married in 1965; 2 brothers, James and Robert Carter; and his 2 sisters, Annabelle and Avanelle Carter.


Amongst his many joys, Chuck treasured the time spent with his grandchildren. His presence at family gatherings, his stories, and his laughter created memorable moments that will continue to resonate with all who knew him.


Chuck's life will be celebrated in the hearts of his family and friends as a man of integrity, spirit, and unwavering love. His memory will forever remain a guiding light to those he touched.


Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 3rd at 11am from the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home.


In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the AXP Museum- Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Orphans Home/ Veterans Children's Home - 650 Elliott Drive, Xenia, OH 45385.
