Christine Grubbs Maxwell

Ruth Christine Grubbs Maxwell, 95 of Tupelo, MS and formerly of Baxter died Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

She was born January 8, 1929 in Nashville, Arkansas to the late Rev. J.C. and Ruth Verna Reagan Grubbs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Hopkins "Hop" Maxwell on November 26, 2006 and a brother, Dr. Dwight L. Grubbs.

She attended Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana. She later moved to Baxter, where her father became minister at Baxter First Church of God.

In her younger years she worked as a cashier with Elmore's Grocery in Baxter.

Christine was a member of Baxter First Church of God, where she served as organist for many years.

Survivors include sister Maxine (Larry) McCaw of Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers George (Patty) Grubbs of Monroe, LA, Dr. Jerry (Jan) Grubbs of Anderson, IN, Dr. Perry (Sue) Grubbs of Okolona, MS and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Christine will be Wednesday, May 15 at 2 PM at Baxter First Church of God, 446 Elm Street, Baxter, TN 38544 with Dr. Jerry Grubbs officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 15 from 12 Noon until service time at the church. Interment will follow in Maxwell South Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Elmore, Mark McCaw, Reagan Grubbs, Eric Brown, Isaiah Brown and Richard Goff.
