Charlie Soard

Funeral services for Mr. Charles "Charlie" Douglas Soard, age 80 of Cookeville, will be held Monday May 9 at 11 a.m. in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. Charlie died Friday morning May 6, 2016 in Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1935 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Mable Irene Soard Barnwell. Charlie grew up in Cookeville; was of the Protestant Faith; and was a U. S. Navy Veteran. While he and his family lived in California for several years he was a Chevron Dealer with Standard Oil Company. He owned several service stations, convalescent homes, and was a well-known homebuilder. He and his family moved to Cookeville in the late 1980's. He became a real estate developer and has owned and operated Soard Properties for over 30 years. He also founded Soard Museum which has one of the largest Fire and Flatt Iron Memorabilia Collections in the U.S. He and his wife loved antiquing and traveling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Lowhorn. Survivors include his wife, Patricia "Patti" Gillmar Soard; two daughters and a son-in-law, Christine Soard and Deborah and Gervase O'Neill all of Cookeville; two grandchildren, Marlene and husband Josh Lampbert of Gallatin, TN nd Charles "Chad" and wife Kristen Perry; and sister, Linda Fields all of Cookeville.
