Funeral services for Mr. Charlie Howard Gunter, Sr., age 80 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, March 12th at 3 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Davis officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Gunter passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born October 10, 1935 in Putnam County, TN to the late James Franklin and Mary Byrd Gunter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Irene Lonsbury; step-mother, Oma Jane Gunter; two brothers, James and Hillary Gunter; two sisters, Ruth and Jewell Gunter. Howard was retired from General Motors, where he worked for over 47 years. He loved being outdoors, especially mowing, planting trees and tending flowers. He was an antique car buff who enjoyed attending car shows and tinkering on his own Monte Carlo. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie (Kipp) and Nicole Gunter of Goodrich, MI; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Jim Starr, Kim and Jim McColgan, all of Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters and brother-in-law, Jane Morgan of Baxter, Julie and Greg Stadther of Mt. Juliet, TN; brother, Dale Gunter; six grandchildren; and his beloved dog Bucky. Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
