Funeral services for well-known minister Charles Dwain Williamson of Cookeville will be held Thursday November 10th at 11:00am at the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ with interment in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Johnson will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 9th from 4-8pm at Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, and at 10am until time of service Thursday, at the church. Mr. Williamson passed away Monday morning, November 7th, 2016 at his home at the age of 82. He was the son of the late Clifford Green & Lena Mae Bruff Williamson of Trezevant, TN, and is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mrs. Joyce Scott Williamson of Cookeville. Mr. Williamson began preaching at the age of 17, serving seven churches in Mississippi and Tennessee, baptizing hundreds throughout his ministry. He served as Pulpit Minister at Jefferson Ave Church of Christ from 1970 to 1977 and then served the Church Street Church of Christ in Lewisburg for 30 years, before returning to Jefferson Ave where he retired in 2014. Mr. Williamson received degrees from Freed-Hardeman University & Bethel College. He also earned a Master's Degree from Harding Graduate School of Bible and Religion, and he earned a second Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, concentrating on Suicide-ology, Depression, and Grief Adjustment, from Tennessee Technological University. He was a State Certified Professional Counselor. He produced the daily radio program "Upreach" for 30 years in Lewisburg, and participated in a weekly television program when he was a minister in Tupelo, Mississippi. He taught the Bible for college credit in Cookeville and spoke on lectureships at Alabama Christian Academy, Lipscomb University, Freed Hardeman University and Tennessee Bible College. His love for people around the world led him to make numerous mission campaigns in Bermuda, Russia, the Ukraine, and most recently to Dominica. He also made and conducted several trips to Israel and the Mid-East. While recognized for his scholarly knowledge of the Bible, most will remember Mr. Williamson for his vigilance to visit the sick and those who lost loved ones. It was a duty he took seriously and one he tried to fulfill successfully every single day. Many times, he would be at the hospital within hours of someone being admitted, or at the home of the bereaved once news reached him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Linda D'Amico and her husband Dan, of Frisco TX, Ms. Carol Hart of Cookeville, and Mrs. Susan Garrison and her husband Scott of Lyman SC; and a brother Mr. James Williamson and his wife Ruth of Keller, TX. Surviving also are five grandchildren: Angela & Shelby Hart, Austin & Logan Tate, and Whitney Wells; two Step-grandsons, Josh & Zach Garrison; one great-granddaughter Raelee Wells and one great-grandchild due in April. He was predeceased by two sisters: Mrs. Anita Sloan of Nashville & Mrs. Freida Snyder of Chattanooga; and one son-in-law, Mr. Ron Hart of Lewisburg. Known for his love for people and his keen sense of humor, he will best be remembered as a devoted husband, as a loving father and grandfather, an outstanding community leader, and a faithful man of God. Dan D'Amico, Scott Garrison, Austin Tate, Logan Tate, Robert Snider, Danny Snider and Bobby Lane will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons at Jefferson Avenue.
