Private memorial services for Charles Robert Thompson, 72, of Cookeville and formerly of Manchester, TN have been held with his family. Mr. Thompson died suddenly, January 28, 2012 at his home. He was born January 30, 1939 in Dundalk, MD to the late Macy Robert and Lucille Williamena Calvert Thompson. Mr. Thompson graduated from Columbia Union College in 1965. He worked as a schoolteacher, as a field engineer, and built his own house before moving to Tennessee in 1975. Mr. Thompson then bought a farm in Cannon County, where he became a Dairy Farmer for nearly 20 years. He later worked for the Tennessee Department of Human Services in Manchester, TN. Following retirement, he joined the Peace Corp where he volunteered for service in the Philippines. He lived in Mobile, AL after his term in the Peace Corp, and had just recently moved to Cookeville. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Williams. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Stephanie and Randy Chaffin of Cookeville; Nonnie and Buddy Eubanks of Savannah, GA, and Amy Thompson of Manchester, TN; one brother, Don Thompson of Mobile, AL; and three grandchildren, Scott and Molly Chaffin, and Calhoun Eubanks. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
