Charles Kibbons

Mr. Charles W. Kibbons, Jr., age 84 of Cookeville, passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Saturday, November 2, 2019. He was born on July 19, 1935 in Columbia, TN to Charles (Cal) Sr. and Doris Black Kibbons who preceded him in death. Charles graduated from Columbia Military Academy in 1953. His father also graduated from the academy. Charles also attended the University of Tennessee and Tennessee Tech University. He married Joane Benson of Columbia, TN on March 13, 1959. They moved to Cookeville in January 1964 upon request from his aunt, Eleanor Sadler, whose husband, Gore Sadler, President of Citizens Bank, had passed away suddenly. Mr. Kibbons was a lifetime avid fisherman and outdoorsman, so living near Center Hill Lake was a dream for him. He retired from Citizens Bank as Vice President, cashier, and Board member and continued his fishing career until his health prevented him from enjoying his lifelong sport. A lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church, he served as assistant financial secretary at the local First Presbyterian Church for several years. He enjoyed his membership in the Cookeville Kiwanis Club for several years and served as President. He was a silent partner in his wife's business, Ships 'n Trips Travel Agency in Cookeville. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joane B. Kibbons; two sons, Charles Kibbons III of Nashville and Christopher Kibbons of Murfreesboro and Key West; and brother, John Kibbons of Alaska and Sisters, Oregon. Burial will be at the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 13th at 3 p.m. at Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church. The family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 20 N.
