Charles Monroe Jones, known affectionately as Charlie to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on December 26, 1937, in Tallassee, Alabama, Charlie's journey through life was marked by his great sense of humor, his selfless nature, and his remarkable memory that never missed a detail.
Charlie's life was one of service and commitment. As a proud Air Force veteran, he dedicated himself to his country with honor. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a sales representative, where he took a genuine interest in his clients.
Married to the love of his life, Bonnie Howard Jones, on April 16, 1966, Charlie was a devoted husband for 57 years. Together, they built a family that included their children, Linda Thomas (Shannon), Charles Jones (April), Mark Barnett Sr. (Laurie), and a loving sister-in-law, Ann Howard. He was also a cherished father-in-law to Julie Jones. His legacy continued to grow with his adored grandchildren, Ondina, Mark Jr., Becky, Aleshia, Cody, Eric, Neil, Krystal, Kristopher, James, Gregory, Kelsey, Alexandria, and Mahala, and he was blessed to see the joy of seventeen great-grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Isom Gregory Jones and Naomie Cantrell Jones; his children, Lisa Charlene Jones, James Jones, Bonnie Jo-an Jones; his granddaughter, Kayla Jones; and his siblings, J.R. Jones, George Jones, Sally Jones, Willie Marvin Jones, Helen Jones, and Flossie Barker.
A man of faith, Charlie was a dedicated member of the Church of Latter Day Saints. He extended his love for cultural exchange by hosting several exchange students, forming a lifelong friendship with his first student, Silvio Varella, among others.
His interests were as diverse as they were engaging. Known for his wit and being quite the jokester, he brought laughter and light-heartedness to every gathering. Charlie was also an accomplished genealogist, taking great pride in tracing and sharing his family's history. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for bird hunting with his close friends, Jimmy and Shirley Rogers. Not to be overlooked was his tender care for his apple orchard, which was both a hobby and a testament to his nurturing spirit.
A funeral service honoring Charlie will be at 1 p.m. Monday January 29 at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Algood City Cemetery. Charlie's family will welcome friends Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
