Funeral Services for Mr. Charles Elbert Wilson, age 86, of Cookeville, will be Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Burial will follow with full military honors in the Crest Lawn Veteran Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Dyer Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson passed away lovingly surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Charles was born February 7, 1926 in Cookeville to the late Elbert and Lucy Clio Wilson. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He spent most of his tour aboard the USS Cohasset serving in the Philippines, Palau Islands and Pearl Harbor. Mr. Wilson received the Victory Medal, Philippines Liberation Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. After returning to the states he met and married the love of his life, Plina M. Sliger. Charles was a Shell Oil business owner for many years here in Cookeville, but really enjoyed flying with his son Chuck and gardening with his son Jeff, as well as spending time with his family and special family pets. After retiring from his business Charles worked with his daughter, Sandra and son-in-law Bobby Randolph as a cashier at Algood City Diner for over 10 years meeting and greeting customers and friends. He always had something good to say about everyone and was the most honest man you would ever meet. Mr. Wilson was a member of the West View Baptist Church. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Plina M. Sliger Wilson and two devoted sons and daughters-in-law; Chuck Wilson and wife Judy, and Jeff Wilson and wife Debra, one daughter Sandra Randolph and husband Bobby. He is also survived by five grandchildren David (Lee) Wilson, Andy Wilson, Allison Bevelheimer, Steven (Jennifer) Randolph, and Rhonda (Ricky) Lynn, as well as ten great-grandchildren; Hailey, Ethan and Ashley Wilson, Honey, Gavin and Emmett Wilson, Tyler and Matthew Randolph, and Rachel and Rylee Lynn. In addition Charles is survived by two brothers; Clarence (Louise) Wilson of Baxter and Joe Wilson of Cookeville, several nieces and nephews and his special pets; Larry the cat and Ginger and Lucy his dogs. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a granddaughter-in-law, Jessica Wilson. Bro. Gene Schmid and Bro. John Davis will officiate the services. The Veteran Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.
