Charlene K. Herron

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Charlene K. Herron, a loving and dedicated soul, was born on December 4, 1944, in Hazard, Kentucky, and she passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. A resilient spirit, Charlene's life was a beautiful testament to the power of love, generosity, and caring for others.

Charlene, through her boundless heart and talent, played pivotal roles in her community, alongside her husband, owning and operating Sammie's Florist and Sammie's Skating Rink in Cookeville. Her creativity flourished as a talented floral designer, bringing joy and beauty to countless occasions. She and her husband also lived in Naples, FL, where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. T". They returned to the Cookeville area 27 years ago.

Her education began in Hazard, Kentucky, where she attended school before moving to Ohio. From a young age, Charlene showed remarkable maturity and compassion as she took care of her siblings, shaping her into the loving, kind-hearted, and strong person she became.

Known for her sweet and sensitive personality, Charlene had a big heart that embraced everyone around her. She cherished spending time with her family, often indulging in her hobbies of shopping and jewelry, while dreaming of the beach or getting lost in the plots of her favorite soap operas. Her affectionate nature made her a cherished Nana, and her grandchildren-Danyiel Taylor, Krystal Bryant, Shanna Ishcomer, and Minko Ishcomer-were undoubtedly her proudest accomplishment. She adored her great-grandchildren: Cain Dale Craighead, Braxton Bryant, Liam Bryant, Kingston Soria, Kalani Durden, Elizabeth Ishcomer, and Everleigh Ishcomer, whose lives she enriched with her love.

Charlene’s legacy continues through her surviving sister, Darlene Bourne, who remembers a bond that spanned many years filled with love and laughter.

She is welcomed in the arms of her parents, Willie C. Kilgore and Ruby Opal Proffitt; her beloved husband, Jimmy D. Herron; her daughter, Tammy Renee Barrett; and her siblings, Ruth Randolph, Debbie Holmes, Victor Kilgore, and John Wesley Kilgore. Each of them played a significant role in her life, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever resonate.

Celebration of life services will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 2:00pm at Twin Oak Community Center, 5939 Thomas Twin Oak Road, Baxter, TN 38544. A potluck celebration meal will be served. The family asks that attendees bring a side dish to share with Charlene’s family and friends.
