Charlene Darty

d. October 7, 2021

"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth more than rubies. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31: 10, 30, 31 (NIV) Graveside services and interment for Mrs. Roselene Charlene Myers Darty, age 84 of Southfield, MI and formerly of Cookeville, will be Sunday October 10th at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Methodist Church Cemetery in Livingston. Her family will receive friends Saturday 4-7 p.m. and Sunday 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Charlene's life began on Tuesday, September 29, 1936, Livingston, TN, Overton County. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, in the Henry Ford Hospital in Bloomfield, Michigan, one day shy of her 85th birthday. Affectionately known as RoRo to her family, she was the first daughter born to the late Charles Whitson and Mildred Elease Copeland Myers. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Mildred Charletta Varner; husband Charles Darty; grandparents, Jerry and Amanda Myers; James E. and Lillie Mae Copeland; and brothers, Harold, William (Billy) and Jerry Emmitt Myers. Charlene’s life should be celebrated and remembered as one filled with love for God, love for her family and love for her friends. Her love for God began at an early age as a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ, Livingston and continued throughout her life as a member of the Detroit Greater Metropolitan Church of God in Christ, and the Cookeville Christian Fellowship Center. Charlene received her early education at Longview Elementary, Livingston and graduated from Darwin High School, Cookeville, TN. She retired from Sears & Roebuck Co., Detroit, MI. and Fleetguard, Cookeville. Charlene was a loving, giving and kind spiritual woman who gave her time and energy to her family, friends and anyone who needed her. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, singing in her church choir, traveling, and cooking. She always enjoyed the yearly family reunions where she and her late husband Charles would prepare for family members to return to Cookeville each year. Charlene was always an encouraging and supportive woman who loved going to nursing homes to minister to the residents. She was the surrogate mother and matriarch to her family after the passing of her mother and everyone looked up to her. She was funny in an innocent way, spoke her truth without hesitation, but her sweetness and goodness outweighed it all. She will be deeply missed by her two loving and dearly devoted granddaughters, Dr. Ashley Varner, Amber (Justin) Edwards, and adorable great-grandson, August Edwards, Ft. Worth, TX; dearly devoted son-in-law and caregiver, Thomas Varner, Southfield, MI; dearly devoted and loving siblings, Eleane (Joe) Hogan, Detroit, MI; Betty (Pastor Roy) Coleman, Louisville, KY; Shannon Benson, Lathrup Village, MI and Dr. Danny (Sandra) Myers, Yorktown, VA; sister-in-law’s, Frances Hogan and Mildred Hall, Algood, TN; loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews too numerous to name, and a host of cousins and dear friends. Charlene (RoRo) leaves an indelible legacy that can never be replaced and the beautiful memories she leaves with all who knew and loved her will forever be embedded in our hearts. "In life we loved her dearly and in death we do the same." Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 Share memories and condolences at www.hhhfunerals.com
