Catherine Chaffin

September 23, 1942 — September 20, 2023

Catherine Bell Chaffin, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at the age of 80 years old. Born on September 23, 1942 in Baxter, TN, she lived a life of laughter and love the majority of her life in the Mount Juliet/Gladeville, TN area.

The oldest of nine children, Cathy grew up very poor but never complained about the hard times she faced throughout her childhood. A beautiful, forgiving soul who was loved by many, she always had a smile for everyone and a way of making them feel as if she had known them their entire life. Best known for her cooking, she worked in various small stores in the area for which people would drive for miles to come have lunch made by “Ms. Cathy.”

Though the last few years were very hard, she still kept her feistiness and a desire to live her life as best she could with her husband as her caregiver, who was beside her until the very end. She loved life in general, old westerns (Gunsmoke and Matt Dillon), music (Statler Brothers, Elvis, Conway and Loretta), dancing (she passed down to her children and grandchildren), pretty clothes, flowers and, of course, cooking. Most of all, she loved her family with all her heart and gave all she had to take care of them for as long as she could. Those who were blessed to have their lives touched by her know the imprint she left on their hearts and lives. The world lost a very special soul that will never be replaced.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ruth Lindner Bryant, brothers, Charles and Ricky Bryant, sisters, Rhonda Edmonds and Wanda Denny, beloved pet, Kobe (Jo-Jo).

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Johnny Lee Chaffin; daughters, Cindy Carson of Mt. Juliet, Tammy (Todd) Bowman of Baxter; brother, Terry Bryant of Baxter; sisters, Betty (Rick) Herron of Baxter, Mary Biggs of Algood; grandchildren, Stefany (Derrick) Bilbrey, Chance Carson, Cade Carson, Travis (Brooke) Bowman, Tyler (Adrienne) Bowman, Tayton Bowman, five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other family members.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. No visitation will be planned per her wishes.
