Funeral services for Mr. Samuel Carroll Stewart Jr., 89 of Cookeville, will be held at 1 pm Saturday September 5 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Fox officiating. Interment will follow at the Phillips Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 – 8 pm and again Saturday from 11 am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Stewart died Thursday morning October 3, 2013 at the Alvin C. York Veterans Administration Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born May 3, 1924 in Hartsville, TN to the late Samuel Carroll Sr. and Pearl Lyles Stewart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Phillips Stewart, three brothers, Roy, Glen, and Dean Stewart; and sister, Hazel Cothran. Mr. Stewart was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and received the Purple Heart. He was a truck driver and farmer. He is survived by a special friend and care giver, Louise Goodwin of Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Wiley of Mt. Juliet, TN, Sammie Slaven of Orlando, FL; brother, Billy Stewart of Gasden, AL; and sister, Beatrice Price of Hartsville, TN; three grandchildren; and friends, Raymond and Brenda Smith. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
