Carolyn Bates

BAXTER-Celebration of Life Services for Carolyn Bates, 85 of Buffalo Valley will be Saturday, March 5 at 1 PM at the Baxter Church of Christ. Interment will be in the Carlen Cemetery at Silver Point. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 AM until service time at the church, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Bro. John Pippin and Bro. Chris Ramsey will officiate. Mrs. Bates died Sunday night, February 27, 2022 at Blakeford at Green Hills in Nashville. She was born January 7, 1937 in Silver Point to the late Othel and Levola Anderson Carr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Jean Mackie, Hilda Maxwell, Ann Neely, Margaret Thomas, Tincy Strahin, Becky Maynard, brothers Jimmy, Jerry, Bobby, Marty and Mike Carr. Carolyn was a 1956 graduate of Baxter Seminary. She attended Baxter Church of Christ and Buffalo Valley Church of Christ. She retired as cafeteria manager at Upperman High School in Baxter. Carolyn enjoyed gardening and lawn care, spending time with family and friends. Survivors include husband of 64 years, (Married November 12, 1957) James "Jim" Bates of Buffalo Valley; daughter and son-in-law; Bridget and Joey Looney of Buffalo Valley, son and daughter-in-law Terry and Kathy Bates of Nashville; grandchildren: Jordan Bates, Brady (Karis) Bates and Parker Looney; sisters, Shirley Douglas of Grant, Tn and Jan Greene of Gordonsville. Brady Bates, Jordan Bates, Daniel Bruce, Matthew Harris, Koby McWilliams and Brent Reecer will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Baxter Church of Christ Care Center, c/o Baxter Church of Christ 224 Buffalo Valley Road, Baxter, TN 38544 or St. Jude's Children Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
