Carol Sykes

A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Carol Elizabeth Sykes, age 77, of Cookeville, will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Father Christiano Nunes will officiate. Her family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery outside Philadelphia ,Pennsylvania at a later date. Mrs. Sykes died Friday, January 14, 2022 at her residence with her loving husband at her side. She was born July 22, 1944 in Wayne, Pennsylvania to the late Charles E. and Frances Ceal Lloyd. She was a graduate of Radnor High School, Radnor, PA. and attended Merced College, Merced, CA. Carol was a dedicated homemaker and supportive military wife and mother, ready to pick up and move whenever the call came. Throughout the many years associated with the Air Force she developed a true longing for traveling, particularly within Europe. Her most memorable moment was shaking hands with Pope John Paul ll in the Vatican Square, Rome, Italy. She so much enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and boating with her family. She loved her grand children deeply and, whenever possible, she could be seen with at least one grandkid on her lap. She was generous to a fault always looking after others putting them first in all ways. She enjoyed shopping for everyone and then giving gifts that brightened their faces. Carol just naturally attracted friends everywhere she went, from military families as well as church friends and neighbors. Her family settled in Cookeville 24 years ago during which time she has been an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, serving in many capacities. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only sibling, Maureen Manning. She is survived by her husband of over 55 years, Ronald D. Sykes; by her daughters, Donna M. (Eric) Wickson of St. Louis, MO and Stephanie A.Sykes of Cookeville; by her sons, Ronald D. (Yume) Sykes, Jr of Lexington, SC and Christopher L. (Dawn) Sykes of Algood, TN; by her grandchildren, Justin Wickson, Leanna Wickson, Ryann Wickson, Katherine Sykes Lew (Justin), Patrick Sykes, Brandon Sykes, Alex Hernandez, Jesse Sykes and Emily Sykes; and by her great grandchildren, Grant Lew, Evie Lew and Emmett Lew.
