COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - Carol Gene Gazlay, a beloved musician and singer, passed away on April 18, 2025, at her home in Cookeville, Tennessee, at the age of 88. Born on May 14, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, she devoted her life to the arts and her community, with an impressive career as a talented musician who played a variety of instruments including the banjo, piano, and drums.

Carol earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Percussion from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where her passion for music flourished. Throughout her life, she was not only a devoted musician but also an active member of Unity Church in Cookeville, where she made meaningful contributions as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. Her artistic spirit extended beyond music; she was a poet and a diligent family historian, capturing the memories and stories of her loved ones.

In addition to her musical and poetic pursuits, Carol was a vibrant member of various community organizations, including the Lakewood, Missouri Garden Club and the Red Hats Ladies Club. She embraced life with enthusiasm and warmth, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Carol is survived by her cherished husband, Charles Lee Gazlay, of Cookeville; her sons, Keith Williamson of San Antonio, Texas, and Kirk Williamson of Kansas City, Missouri; and her niece, Tara Tobias of St. Petersburg, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marian Giel Tobias, and her brother, Larry Tobias.

In honor of Carol's remarkable life, a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri, starting at 1 PM with Pastor Greg Netler officiating.

Following services in Kansas City, there will be a Celebration of Life at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville, Tennessee, beginning at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Carol Gazlay will be remembered for her musical talent, her dedication to her community, and her loving spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, creativity, and the power of music that touched the hearts of many.
