DYER CHAPEL-Carlyn Glenn Thomas, born on April 10, 1933, in Baxter, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his hometown on Friday, October 4, 2024. A beloved member of his community. Carlyn will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his work, and his unwavering spirit throughout his life.

Carlyn had a long and fulfilling career, having retired from Atmus Filtration, formerly Fleetguard, where he served for over 25 years. In addition to this, he embraced his passion for agriculture as a farmer, where he found joy and satisfaction in tending to his land and cattle. His commitment to hard work was evident throughout his life and inspired those around him.

An avid golfer, Carlyn enjoyed spending his leisure time honing his skills on the course, where he found camaraderie and relaxation. His love for the outdoors and farming was a testament to his connection with the land he cherished.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Carlyn served honorably during the Korean Conflict. His service to his country was a significant part of his identity, reflecting his strong sense of duty and patriotism.

Carlyn was a member of the Ozion Free Will Baptist Church, a place where he found solace and community. His faith was an integral part of his life, guiding him through both joyful and challenging times.

He graduated from Baxter Seminary, further highlighting his commitment to education and personal growth. Carlyn cherished his roots in Baxter and remained a pillar of strength and wisdom within the community.

Carlyn is survived by his sons, Mitch Thomas of Baxter and Greg (Sandra) Thomas of Cookeville. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Ellen Lafever of Baxter, and his cherished grandchildren, Abigail Thomas, Jared Thomas, and Colin Thomas. They will forever hold onto the memories of Carlyn's love, guidance, and distinct personality.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Dow and Annie Herd Thomas, his wife, Clara Nell Ashburn Thomas, who passed away on July 23, 2014, and his siblings, Elmus Britt, Nelline Wiley, Treva Luke, Wilma Maxwell, Charlene Goff, and brothers, King, Charles, and JV Thomas.

Visitation will be at Dyer Chapel Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM with military honors provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Bro. Corey Price will officiate. Interment will follow in Dobbs Cemetery in Putnam County.

Carlyn Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family and community that will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
