A memorial service for Col. (R) Carlton Adams Galbreath, age 82 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Wesley Chapel of Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Rev. Rob Wheeler will officiate. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Col. Galbreath's family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Wesley Chapel. Col. Galbreath died Friday, July 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 25, 1935 in Goodlettsville, TN to the late Ollie G. and Addie Adams Galbreath and was a graduate of Goodlettsville High School. He was a 1958 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he played football and baseball and was a member of the ROTC program. A true patriot, Carlton began his distinguished and decorated career with the US Army in August of 1958. His service included two tours in Vietnam and assignments in Maryland, California, Germany, Kansas, Washington D.C., Texas, Rhode Island, Virginia and Hawaii. He obtained an MBA from American University in D.C. in 1966. He retired from the Army January 1, 1985. He continued working in Durham, North Carolina for CSC Computer Services and in Hilton Head, SC for Scratch Golf Company before moving back to Murfreesboro in 1999. After marrying Sue Galbreath, Carlton made Cookeville his home in 2003. He has been a faithful member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Carlton was a sweet and gentle family man who will be lovingly remembered for his kind spirit, dedication to family and friends, and his devotion to his church and country. He lived life with passion and gusto, always at the ready to play a round of golf, watch his alma mater win at football, cheer on the Atlanta Braves or simply share stories with his adored grandchildren. He got great joy out of hearing their stories and seeing their smiles. His lust for a life well lived will live on with all who had the pleasure and honor to know him and call him Dad, Husband, Brother, Papa, Pops, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 44 years, Nancy Turner Galbreath and brother Billy Galbreath. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sue Bedford Galbreath; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Michael Gibney of Waleska, GA, Kimberly and Jeff Hielsberg of Atlanta; step daughters and husbands, Susan and Clark Simpson and Michelle and Monte Gaw, all of Cookeville; grandchildren, Jake Gibney, Allie Gibney Kent and Justin Kent and step grandchildren Molly Jo Simpson, Adam Simpson and Matthew Gaw; brother, Jimmy Galbreath of Goodlettsville and sister, Evelyn Rose of Nashville and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caney Fork River District Disaster Relief Team. Contributions may be sent to Cookeville First United Methodist Church, 165 E Broad St., Cookeville, TN 38501 and marked "Galbreath Memorial."
