Carlene Galemore

d. April 9, 2021

Mrs. Carlene Neely Galemore, age 84 of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away on April 9, 2021. Mrs. Galemore was born in Springfield, Tennessee, to the late Carley Buford and Nell Goodwin Neely. The family lived briefly in Gallatin and Murfreesboro before settling in the Nashville area. Carlene graduated from Donelson High School in 1954 where she was active in the school choir. She attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute (now Tennessee Technological University) where she met her first husband, Ralph Blanton Alspaugh. They had three sons: Blanton, Kevin, and Gary. Following a divorce in Florida in 1968, Carlene and her sons moved back to Nashville. In 1974, she was introduced to Chuck Galemore, then a Tech Sergeant in the Tennessee Air National Guard. A year later they were married and Chuck, along with his son Dana, and Carlene, with her three boys, became a family. After retirement, Carlene and Chuck relocated to Cookeville where they were active for a time in the Algood Lion’s Club and served diligently together as ambassadors for ESGR (Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve). Carlene loved to sing. She sang in choirs throughout high school and college and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Nashville. She was also a long-time and active member of the choirs at the Donelson Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Chief Master Sergeant Charles G. (Chuck) Galemore, and her first husband, Ralph Alspaugh. She is survived by her sons Blanton (Leann) Alspaugh of Palmyra, Virginia; Kevin (Kathy) Alspaugh of Hermitage, Tennessee; Dana (Stacey) Galemore of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and Gary (Deborah) Alspaugh of Cookeville, Tennessee; as well as grandchildren Chelsea (Justin) Alspaugh-Simmons and Neal Alspaugh and a great grandson, Zander Simmons. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home at 59 North Jefferson Avenue in Cookeville. The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She was interred with her husband, Chuck, at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Pegram, Tennessee, on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Social distancing and the use of masks were appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations were suggested to be made to the Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church Choir or a charity of your choice. Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (931)526-6111 Share your thoughts and memories at www.hhhfunerals.com.
