Carl Moore, Jr.

On the afternoon of June 1, 2023, Carl Ellis Moore Jr. of Cookeville, TN passed away at the age of 74.

Carl was born October 10, 1948, in Miami, FL to the late Carl and Lorene Moore. He spent his early years in Miami and Jacksonville, FL before moving to Atlanta to attend Emory University. Carl began a career with Southwestern Bell and eventually lived in Texas until his retirement. He then moved to Tennessee to be closer to family.

Carl was a very kind, gracious, and gentle man. He was a mentor and friend to many and was always available to help family and friends, to lend a wise word and a listening ear. His daily texts and check in’s will be missed by so many. He was artistic-a talented painter and writer, an avid reader, and he loved fast cars.

Carl was married to Thelma May (Helie) Moore who preceded him in death. In addition to Thelma, Carl was preceded in death by his step-daughter Suzanne Wright (David).

Carl is survived by his sisters Dianne Garner (Robert), Jeanne Warner; step-son Joseph Kerr; grandson Brady Kerr; nephews Richard Garner (Katie), Ron Garner (Megan); nieces Stacy Baxter (Blake), Heather McRaney, and many dear friends who he considered family.

A memorial service for Carl will be at 11 a.m. Friday June 30 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. His family will welcome friends Friday from 10 a.m. until service.
