Funeral services for Mr. Bruce Wayne Gritten, age 56 of the Cherry Creek Community in White County, will be held Thursday August 27 at 10 am in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Pastors Steve Warren and Maston Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow in Nash Cemetery in White County. Bruce’s family will receive friends Thursday from 9 am until service time at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 precautions, social distancing measures will be in place. Bruce died Saturday August 22, 2020 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1964 in Hammond, Indiana to Minta "Pauline" Foster Gritten and the late Wayne Harold Gritten. Bruce attended Crown Point High School in Indiana, where he played on the football team. In 1983, he moved to Cookeville and worked in the restaurant industry, managing and owning several restaurants during his career. He loved studying the Bible and attending church. He was a member of Faith Chapel Ministries. He enjoyed playing the guitar, watching television, and spending time with people and animals. He was the proud owner of a dog, four cats and a horse. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Brenda (Tom) Howland of Danvers, Massachusetts; aunts, Shirley Johnson of Plymouth, Indiana and Carolyn Lawrence of Rockford, Illinois; uncle, Paul Gritten of Augusta, Michigan; nephew, Timothy Howland; nieces, Michelle Muse and Jennifer Howland; great nephews, DJ and Cyrek Muse; and special cousin, Ricky Arbutis.
