Bobby Ray Gunter, 64, went to be with the Lord July 5, 2020, in Birmingham, Alabama, a short time after contracting the novel coronavirus. During his lifetime he was a loving son, brother and father, and his friends will remember him as a generous man who never met a stranger. He is predeceased by his father, Willis Eugene Gunter; his son Dakota James Gunter; his granddaughter, Kayleeray Rhoads; and his niece Vallie Rae Hardaman. Bobby is survived by his daughter Katie Gaines (Cedric), grandchildren Kimberly and Kaleel, of Columbia, Missouri; mother, Peggy Dilldine Gunter, brother William Eugene Gunter, sister Linda Faye Gunter and niece Sarah Jane Hardaman, all of Birmingham, Alabama; stepsons, John and Matt Rhoads. A graduate of Corner High School who later attended the University of North Alabama, Bobby spent his career as automotive parts salesman and manager. He believed in hard work, but like many Southern men the things he most loved were family, football, fishing and friends. He had a larger-than-life personality and was a chief instigator of gatherings that included food and fun. If he knew you, you had a nickname. If he loved you, you were blessed. Most important, the world was a kinder place for his presence in it. Although he never lived in Tennessee, Bobby’s family has been here for generations that predate the existence of Putnam County. He is the grandson of the William O. Dilldine and Gladys Martin Maddux and great grandson of Samuel H. and Vallie Carr Martin and Jesse Dilldine and Elvira Lafever. Graveside services and interment, among family, will be 11 a.m. Thursday July 9 at Allison Cemetery with Rev. Robert Christian officiating. Friends are invited to come by Dyer Funeral Home to sign the guest book and pay their respects on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Due to Covid-19 precautions, social distance measures will be observed.
