Bobby Carter

November 14, 1938 — February 5, 2022

Mr. Bobby Lee Carter, age 83, died Saturday February 5, 2022 at Charter Senior Living of Cookeville. His family will receive friends Sunday February 13th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Poplar Grove Baptist Church. He was born November 14, 1938 in rural Smith County, TN, living there with his parents, Payton and Carrie Brewington Carter until age 12 when they moved to the Poplar Grove community, near Cookeville. He was raised on a working farm without electricity and developed a great work ethic. He also excelled in athletics as a youth, playing basketball in Smith County and football at Cookeville High School. He was recruited to play football by the University of Arkansas along with his lifelong friend, Glen Carmack. He played football for Tennessee Tech and earned a bachelors degree in agriculture. Following graduation from Tech, he earned a law degree from Nashville School of Law. Bobby enjoyed life on the farm throughout his life. His many talents included beekeeping, hunting and craftsmanship. He was elected to the Putnam County Commission serving for two terms. He also enjoyed traveling and experiencing the sights, cultures and foods around the country. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan Crawford Carter; children, Steve (Carolyn) Carter, Alan Carter, Brent Carter, and Brian (Christy) Carter; step children, Michelle Borden (Brian) Proffit and Will (Tracy) Borden; grandchildren, Callie Carter, Cade Carter, Dakota (Carter) Watson, A.J. Carter, Emma Grace Carter, Payton Carter, Landon Symes, Jax Borden, and Jade Oderman; and by great grandchildren, Livi Carter Watson, Breck Hunter Watson, and Mary Ann Martin. His family wishes to acknowledge Cookeville High Class of 1956 for the friendship and joy his classmates brought to him throughout his life. They also would like to thank and express their appreciation to Avalon hospice and Charter (formerly Morningside) Senior Living of Cookeville for the excellent and loving care given to him.
