Bob May

Graveside services for Mr. Robert L. May, age 78 of Cookeville, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 11 at West Cemetery in the Burgess Falls Community. Rev. Hillier Duke will officiate. Mr. May's family will receive friends on Thursday from 5p.m. until 8p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Mr. May died suddenly Monday, April 7, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 20, 1935 in Bloomington, IN to the late Howard R. and Ollie Sylvester May. Bob worked as an Electronic Technician for over 40 years with the RCA Corporation in Bloomington. He was an avid golfer and participated in Sr. golf leagues. He was a member of Cookeville First Christian Church since moving to Cookeville in August of 2000. Spending winter months with his wife in Florida, he was also a dual member of the Winter Haven Christian Church. He served as a volunteer at Habitat for Humanity in Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester, Wayne, Roger, Fred, Chester and Arthur May. He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Vera Blackwell May (whom he married April 13, 1956 in Bloomington); three daughters, Carolyn (James) Tims of Cary, North Carolina, Reva (Mitch) Hyder of Denver, Colorado, and Amy (Jamie) Slocum of Mt. Juliet; four grandchildren, Alex Tims, Haley Hyder, Madison Slocum and Carson Slocum; and by several nieces and nephews.
