Funeral services for Robert (Bob) Huston Dyer, age 63 of Cookeville, will be held at 11 am Wednesday October 22 at Willow Avenue Church of Christ with Bro. Jeremiah Tatum and Bro. Clarence Deloach officiating. Interment will follow in the Smyrna Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-8pm at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and again Wednesday from 9am until service time at the church. Mr. Dyer died Monday morning, October 20, 2014 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born September 7, 1951 in Cookeville to Paul Huston Dyer and the late Elizabeth June Neely Dyer. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a step-brother, Mike Loftis. Bob was a member of Willow Avenue Church of Christ. He served the church in many capacities including elder, deacon, song leader and bible school teacher. He served on their board of directors for Happy Haven Children's Home over 20 years. Bob was a jack of all trades. He worked in construction, taught building trades, served as a project manager for Heritage Creations and Cavender's Interiors, and was a lab technician at TTU Engineering Department. He was a licensed funeral director, formerly serving the community with his father at Dyer Funeral Home and later at Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. He enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo, restoring and building street rods, woodworking, crafts, camping, making biodiesel, and deep sea fishing just to name a few of his hobbies. He was currently restoring a 1968 Camaro, which he replaced with a Mercedes diesel engine. He also had recently restored a 1934 Ford Coupe for his wife as a retirement present. He was a charter member of the Cookeville Piston's Car club. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Martha Henry Dyer (whom he married October 15, 1971 in Cookeville); three sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Carla Dyer of Alabaster, AL, Chad and Renea Dyer of Lexington, AL, Dan and Erica Dyer of Cookeville; father and step-mother, Paul & Joan Loftis Dyer of Cookeville; brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Janet Dyer of Cookeville; three step-brothers, Steve (wife Pat) Loftis of Seneca, SC, Mark (wife Tammy) Loftis of Cookeville, Allen (wife Angie) Loftis of Cookeville; step-sister-in-law, Linda Loftis of Cookeville, step-sister, Judy (husband Dale) Flatt of Cookeville; six grandchildren, Haleigh, Hannah, Abby, Kailtyn, Courtney and Opal Dyer; brother-in-law, Dale (wife Sarah) Henry of Ft. Worth, TX, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (husband Leo) Sisco of Grove, OK, Charlene (husband David) Ottinger of Knoxville, TN; many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
