Funeral service for Victor Blake Houston, age 24, of Cookeville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1 at Cookeville Life Church with Donnie Davidson and Greg Canada officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home and again Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Life Church. Blake passed away at his home Thursday morning, September 29, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born October 29, 1991 in Cookeville. Blake graduated from Cookeville High School in 2010 where he was a member of the basketball and golf teams. He earned countless awards and honors in both sports at the local, regional, and state levels. Blake attended Nashville State Community College and was employed by Williams Wholesale. Blake attended Life Church, loved to hunt and fish, and was a standout athlete throughout his life. He was well known for his fighting spirit and can-do attitude that was evident in every aspect of his life. Even in his final years, his faith always remained larger than the battle before him. He is survived by his mother and step-father, Randy and Lisa Minnear Carlile of Cookeville; father, Vic Houston of Lebanon; two brothers and sister-in-law, Logan Houston, Ryan and Carisa Carlile, all of Cookeville; sister Amanda Carlile Graham of Carthage, IL; niece, Emma Dean Carlile; grandmothers, Kitty Houston of Lebanon and Arvilla Carlile of Cookeville; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by grandparents, J.A. (Red) and Ella Mae Minnear; grandfathers, H.F. Houston and James P. Carlile. Pallbearers will be Raymond Chan, Jason Evans, Matt Evans, Jordan Fitzpatrick, Justin Hayes, Mitchell Hill, Matt Phillips, and Josh Weatherholtz. All pallbearers are former teammates and have remained close friends beyond school years.
