Funeral services for Mr. Bill Joe Smallwood, 77 of Jackson Co., will be conducted Sunday September 15 at 1pm in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Burris Cemetery. Pastor Ron Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 11am until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Smallwood died Thursday September 12, 2013 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born November 21, 1935 in Crossville to the late Hugh Smith and Sarah Frances Mahaney Smallwood. Mr. Smallwood worked as a truck driver in Dayton, Ohio before his family moved to Jackson Co. in July of 1975. He farmed tobacco for many years in addition to holding a full-time job. He had worked at Dacco, the school system, Senior Citizens Center and owned his own lawn-mowing service. He worked up until his death. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Ora Knight Smallwood; his second wife of eight years, Rosa Carr; five brothers, Charlie, Wesley, Jesse, Ed and James Smallwood; two sisters, Donna Tobbit and Sue Knight, and by a grandson, Bobby Mahan. Mr. Smallwood is survived by five sons, Wendell (Geneva) Smallwood; Tim Smallwood, Jeff Smallwood, Ronnie (Sharon) Smallwood, and Rev. Randall (Sandra) Smallwood; two daughters, Sharon (Jerry) Ward and Carlene (Ed) Smith; 12 grandchildren, Brandy Howard, Brandon and Bill Hines, Sarah Smallwood, Jonathan and Joseph Smallwood, Teresa and Dana Smith, Ronnie Lee, Joanna Mahan and Billy and Matthew Smallwood; 21 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Herbert, Glen and Rex Smallwood; and by two sisters, Carla Rector and Sylvia Murphy. Mr. Smallwood's grandson will serve as pallbearers.
