Funeral services for Mr. William Wallace Mitchell JR, "Bill" 80 of Cookeville will be held Monday July 10th at 1 p.m. at Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Bill's family will receive friends Monday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. He was born Sunday March 14, 1937 in Cookeville to the late William Wallace and Anna Kate Scott Mitchell. Bill earned his BS Degree in Civil Engineering from Tennessee Tech University. After graduation he moved to Chattanooga Tennessee and worked with (TVA) Tennessee Valley Authority for 36 years. In addition, Mr. Mitchell also served in the 3397th Garrison of the Army Reserves. He was an outstanding member of the unit and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he served as the Director of Personnel of Community Activities. He was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church and a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the U. S. Army Reserve with 30 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ann Owens Mitchell (who died August 26, 2016). Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda and Dennis Meehan of Franklin, TN, and Christy and Gary Moore of Chattanooga, TN; and four grandsons, William, Andrew, and Sean Meehan, and Jacob Moore.
