Funeral services for Billy "BILL" James Dyer, 69, of Baxter, will be Saturday, August 20 at 2 PM from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Bill passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at his home. He was born December 27, 1946 in Baxter, TN to the late James and Vestie Harris Dyer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jimmy Ray Dyer, niece Lisa Dyer Hieatt, nephew James Brian Haggard, grandparents : Ambus and Fina Judd Dyer, Riley and Virgie Stewart Harris. He was a Army veteran serving in Germany in the Vietnam Era. He attended Baxter First Church of God. He was a 1964 graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter. He was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University with a B.S. degree in Social Studies and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Development. He taught History and Geography at Cookeville Junior High School, Avery Trace and served as Principal at Cane Creek Elementary School. He was a member of the National Education Association (NEA) and the Putnam County Education Association (PCEA). His interests included raising chickens, pheasants, exotic birds and cats. He loved to garden , raise cattle, the Santa Gertrudis breed and going to cattle auctions. He loved to cook for family and friends and loved his family his students and his country. He was a member of the Santa Gertrudis Cattle Association. Survivors include sister and brother-in-law Mary Nell and Eugene Haggard of Silver Point, brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Louise Dyer of Alexandria, sister-in-law Shelby Dyer of Baxter, fiancée Patsy "PAT" Brown of Bloomington Springs, nieces and nephews: Tim (Tina) Haggard of Silver Point, Vicky (Mark) Walker of Alexandria, Brandon (Mandy) Dyer of Liberty, Denise Dyer of Baxter, Keith Cannon of Cookeville, Tracy and Leslie Cannon of Dowelltown, several great nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 and Saturday after 11 AM the funeral home. Active Pallbearers will be Keith and Tracy Cannon, Brandon Dyer, John Harris, Larry Gambrell and Carl Wheeler. Rev. Tim Sharp will officiate.
