Funeral services for William "Bill" Hampden Barnett, Jr., 70 of Cookeville and formerly of Detroit, MI, will be held Tuesday, May 22nd at 12 noon from the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with David Henson officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Algood Heritage Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday May 22 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Mr. Barnett died Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was born June 7, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan to the late William Bartlett Sr. and Emily Grace Cullom Barnett. He completed his education in Detroit. William gave his heart to the Lord at an early age. He was a Veteran having served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Gist. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Wilma Gist Barnett of Cookeville; children in Tennessee, daughter, Porsha Peake and fiance' Richard Thompson and Frank Peake; children in Detroit, Davida, Courtney and Pamela; three brothers, Joseph (Amanda) Barnett of Texas, Thomas (Mary) Barnett of Detroit, and John Barnett; sisters, Sheila Barnett and Pamela (Kenneth) Yellowe of Texas; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Joyce Gist of Cookeville; sisters-in-law Mai (Kareem) Cartwright of Cookeville and Darlene Gist of Nashville; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Paula Gist of Cookeville; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
