Betty Lucile Holt

d. May 1, 2019

A Celebration of a Life Well-Lived for Mrs. Betty Lucile Holt, age 91 of Cookeville, will be held Friday May 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at Stevens Street Baptist Church. Pastor Lee Bailey will officiate. Interment will be held at Nashville National Cemetery at a later date. Betty's family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. She died Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at her residence. Betty lived out her faith as a Godly, humble servant of Christ. Her life was spent serving 'the least of these'. She enjoyed painting, bird-watching and was a sports fanatic. She was born November 2, 1927 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Edwin and Lucile Wilcox Brain. She met her late husband Edward P. Holt while he was stationed in Omaha while serving in the US Army. After marrying, they moved to Nashville and she became a homemaker raising five daughters, leading Scout troops, and serving numerous roles in her church and in her community. Later, her servants' heart led her to work in the Metro Nashville Public Schools as a teaching assistant for special-needs children, which was her passion. She was employed at Harris-Hillman and John Trotwood Moore schools. Eventually she and her husband took on the role of caring for and raising multiple special-needs foster children. After her husband's death, Betty continued raising "her special angel" Christopher Shelton until she was 81. Ms. Betty and her husband were members of Inglewood Presbyterian Church. After its closing, she was a member of Hendersonville Chapel, and then, Dalewood United Methodist Church. In 2007, Ms. Betty moved to Cookeville and attended Stevens Street Baptist Church and Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Ms. Betty was a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She somehow attended every ballgame, concert, performance, etc. for everyone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward P. Holt; daughters, Teresa Matthews and Betty Langford; son-in-law, Bill Matthews; grandsons, Matthew Paul Frazier and Jonathan Ryan Frazier; and by a foster child, Chris Shelton. She is survived by daughters, Paula Moore of Florida, Nancy (Dave) Bateman of Smyrna and Anne (Rick) Frazier of Cookeville; sisters, Barbara McBride of Clearwater, FL and Beverly Wetmore of Connecticut; brother, William Brain of Connecticut; grandchildren, Becky (Derek) Smith, Michael (Penny) Matthews, Rachel (Thomas) Sweathomas, Michelle Upton, Eddy Bateman, Christi (Eric) Richey, Robin (Adam) Alexander, Angie Clark, and Amy (Mark) Maberry; great grandchildren, Savannah Decker, Bailey Warren, Ali Decker, Chandler and Chase Matthews, Kirsten and Cole Upton, Alibeth, Callen and Ellie Kate Maberry, Piper, Maverick and Jaxon Richie, Brooklyn and Adylynn Alexander, Asher Smith, Bella Sweathomas and Cheyenne (Jaime) Bradfield; and by a special caretaker, Brenda Taylor. Grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to The Jonathan Ryan Frazier Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Ladies Fellowship Life Group at Stevens Street Baptist Church, 327 W. Stevens St., Cookeville, TN 38501. Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements (931)526-6111. Share memories and condolences at hhhfunerals.com
