Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Long 81 beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and sister of Cookeville, will be held Saturday January 21 at 11 a.m. at Algood United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. Rev. Brent Davis and Rev. Pat Smith will officiate. Mrs. Long's family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Mrs. Long died Wednesday morning January 11, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1935 in Chattanooga, TN to the late Gordon Rhea and LaRue Spurgeon Wilson. Betty was a member of Algood United Methodist Church which she loved and attended as often as she was able. Betty's favorite sport was golf and she beat the odds not once but twice scoring a hole in one on the same par 3 hole. She was a bit of a golfing legend at White Plains Golf Course, and back in the day her husband had her play from the men's tee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Robert Morris Long (who was her high school sweetheart) and her son, James Anthony "Tony" Long. Survivors include three daughters and three sons-in-law, Karen and David Cooper of Hermitage, TN, Kimberly and Edward Trust of Bonair, GA, and Beth and Michael Leidner of Atlanta, GA; she was the proud grandmother of Shawn Long, Jimi Long, James Cooper, Daniel Trust, Logan Trust, Laurel Trust, Stephanie Stamps Findley, and Andrea Stamps Massingill; and enjoyed her great grandchildren, Libby Smith, TJ Smith, Ilah Massingill, Alex Bear Long, and Cadence Long.
