Mrs. Hensley died peacefully Tuesday evening, January 28, 2014 at Life Care Center in Sparta surrounded by her family. She was born June 14, 1925 in Cookeville to the late Sidney Bryan and Sydney Beatrice McBroom Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, UL Hensley; and her first husband of 35 years, Doyle Rodgers; and brother, Billy Jenkins. Mrs. Hensley's career was in marketing at GTE. A pioneer in her day, she traveled throughout the Southeast. She was an active member of the Cookeville Pilot Club and Cookeville/Putnam County YMCA. She held various interests including swimming, fishing, gardening, sewing, exercising and helping others. She was an active member of Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and enjoyed bringing flowers from her rose garden to Sunday morning services. Her sense of humor kept everyone laughing. She was the type of person that someone would speak to for fifteen minutes and feel like they had known her for a lifetime. To know her was to love her! Her priorities in life were her relationship with Jesus Christ, being the best wife she could be and being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Trisha Rodgers; daughter, Katherine Filipek; sister, Geraldine Wigtil; sister-in-law, Elise Jenkins; granddaughter, Beth (Donnie) Suits, all of Cookeville; grandson, Tim Rodgers and wife Melissa of Franklin; and six grandchildren, Syndey Beth, Griffen, and Grace Suits, Hunter, Keaton, and Aubrey Rodgers. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Haven Children's Home 2311 Wakefield Drive Cookeville, Tennessee 38501
