Betty Carroll Hash

July 25, 1933 — November 13, 2022

BUFORD, GA/ALGOOD, TN-Betty Carroll Walker Hash (89) awoke in the presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on November 13, 2022. Born to Beulah Jane Davis and William Henard Walker on July 25, 1933 in Cloyd’s Landing, KY, she spent her childhood surrounded by family on her paternal grandparents’ farm. The farm was bordered by the Cumberland River which she often shared memories of watching river boats traveling down. Her family moved to Tennessee when she was 12, settling in Cookeville. She attended Algood High School until her senior year, transferring to Central High School in Cookeville; which, may have had something to do with the fact that she had met Robert Hash who she would marry a little over a year later on October 25, 1951. Even at 5’2”, Betty was a spunky and fierce competitor playing basketball in high school and in her church league at Briarlake Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. In the early 70’s, she took up tennis where she threw herself into playing multiple leagues every season. Here she made many friends over the years while enjoying a thriving career in real estate. After moving to Duluth, Betty and Robert became members of Johns Creek Baptist Church where they joined the Durham Sunday School Class. When not playing tennis, you would usually find Betty working in her flower beds sharing her plants with neighbors and friends.

At her death she joined her parents and 5 day older brother, Albert. She leaves behind her beloved husband of over 71 years, Robert Hash; 3 children: Mike (Kim) Hash of Suwanee, GA, Vic (Karen) Hash of San Antonio, TX, and Becky (David) Bowen of Nicholson, GA; 6 grandchildren: Justin (Lupe) Hash of Loganville, GA, John Hash of Cibolo, TX, Kristin (Josh) Sailors of Athens, GA, Daniel (Ashley) Bowen of Jefferson, GA, Rachel (Brian) Bounds of Riverview, FL, and Elizabeth Hash of Waco, TX; and 4 great-grandsons: Dylan and Coleman Bowen, Robert Bounds, and Levi Sailors. She also leaves her sister, Mary Reber of Snellville, GA, and brother Bill Walker of Cookeville, TN.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 at Flanigan’s Funeral Home in Buford, GA on Thursday, November 17. Betty will be laid to rest in the City of Algood Tennessee Cemetery where she will lie next to her parents and close by the Algood Community Center where she first caught the eye of a 16 year old Robert Hash as she played basketball.

Pall bearers will be Mike Hash, Vic Hash, David Bowen, Justin Hash, John Hash, Daniel Bowen, Josh Sailors and Brian Bounds. Honorary Pall bearer: Bill Walker.

A graveside service and interment will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 2:00pm(CST) at Algood City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Algood Family Event Center (124 1st Street, Algood, TN 38506).
