Funeral services for Mrs. Berilla Sue Benson Swallows, 92 of Cookeville, will be held Saturday October 27th at 1 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Brotherton Cemetery. Rev. TJ Bennett and Rev. Tommy Benson will officiate. Her family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Swallows died Wednesday morning October 24, 2018 at her home. She was born February 9, 1926 in Putnam Co. to Marvin Bishop and Martha Evelyn Eldridge Benson. Mrs. Swallows was a member of Salem Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She served as Putnam Co. Tax Assessor, finishing out the term of her husband Ray following his death in 1981. She was known by many while employed at Holiday Inn and Putnam Manufacturing. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She was a beloved sister, wife, mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Ray Swallows; sons, Danny and Randall Swallows; brothers, Gilbert Benson, Willie J Benson, Milburn Benson, Thurman Benson, Horace Benson, Johnnie Herman Benson, Earnest Benson and Virgil Benson; and by sisters, Stella Mae Johnson and Hazel Mainord. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gene & Sandy Swallows of Cookeville and Jimmie & Pat Swallows of Boyce, Louisiana; two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha & Dr. Roy Anderson, and Betty Jo & George Johnson, all of Cookeville; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Peek Swallows, of Cookeville; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Ryan Johnson, Ben Anderson, Adam Swallows, Richard Swallows, J T Dulworth, Justin Stevens, John Dulworth and Luke Dulworth will serve as pallbearers. Berilla's family wishes to express a special thank you to her caretakers, Barbara Cunningham, Ruby Murphy and Verta Beaty as well as to her neighbors, Caris Hospice and to Dr. James Staggs for the excellent and loving care.
