Barbara "Sue" Mathis

Funeral services for Barbara "Sue" Mathis, 82 of Cookeville, will be Wednesday, February 21 at 1PM at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home, 798 South Willow Avenue, Cookeville, TN. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM and after 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. Bro. Steve Reeder

Mrs. Mathis died peacefully Friday, February 16, 2024 at the home of her daughter in Silver Point, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born September 11, 1941 in Putnam County, TN to the late Wiley Pearson Reeder and Viola Elise Lee Reeder.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William Dewey Mathis on August 10, 2020, sister-in-law Martha Mathis Walker, brother-in-law Bob Mathis.

Sue graduated from Cookeville Central High School.

Sue retired as a supervisor with GTE of Cookeville with over 27 years of service.

Her faith was a great part of her life attending Whitson Chapel Church of Christ.

Sue enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden and taking care of her roses.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Radford Duke of Silver Point, sister and brother-in-law Mary Ellen and Herman Keith of Hendersonville, brother and sister-in-law Buddy and Linda Reeder of Cookeville, sister-in-law Carolyn Mathis of Baxter, nephews Johnny Mathis, Jeff (Donna) Mathis, special grands Steve Reeder, Lisa Porter, Tyler Reeder, Bo Reeder, Abbi Kline, Kaylin Mercer, Cole Porter and 9 great grands.

Active pallbearers will be Chuck and Cole Porter, Tyler and Bo Reeder, Sean Mercer and Jerome Kline.
