Barbara Slape

Barbara Irene (Keeney) Slape of Cookeville, TN. born August 24, 1943 in New Boston, Ohio, entered her Heavenly Father's Arms on September 24, 2022 in Livingston, TN at the age of 79.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Marjorie Hardy Keeney, and her brother James Keeney.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald Slape; her daughters, Carolyn (Ed) Garr and Patty (Ron) Lee; her grandchildren, Judson Garr, Samuel Garr, Edward Garr, David Garr, Jenna (Devin) Carter, Caroline (Vince) Sparks, Emily (LaRon) Ramsey, and Nicole Lee; her great-grandchildren, Matthew Carter, Layla Carter, Jackson Spitzer and Jacob Spitzer: her sisters, Carmen Lyons, Marinelle (Clyde) Teasley, and Beth (Bob) Milling; her brother-in-law, Louie (Lynn) Slape.

Barbara was a dedicated wife and mother, staying home to raise her daughters. She was a Red Cross volunteer in her local school system in Ohio and an active member of Maple Heights Baptist Church while living in Fairborn, Ohio. She also spent hundreds of hours as a dedicated "band mom" fitting the Park Hills Viking Guard with uniforms. After her children were grown, she worked as a secretary at AFLC, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Upon moving to Cookeville, TN, she became an active member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. Barbara loved spending time with and caring for her grandchildren and the babies in the church nursery. She also had great compassion when caring for her many cats and dogs.

All visitations and the service for Barbara will be held at Bear Creek Baptist Church 3248 Poston Whiteaker Road, Cookeville, TN (north of Algood, TN). Pastor Danny Hembree will be officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Visitation for the public will be on Thursday, September 29, 2022, 4-7 pm and on Friday September 30, 2022, 11 am-12 noon. Family visitation will be 10 am-11 am on Friday. Her service will begin at 12 noon on Friday. (All times are Central time.) Burial will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Judson, Samuel, Edward, and David Garr, Ron Lee, and Hershell Bush.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cookeville Putnam County Animal Shelter, 2650 Gainesboro Grade, Cookeville, TN 38501.
