Barbara Kaye Shaw

Barbara Kaye Shaw, affectionately known as Barbara to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on March 6, 1951, in Blanco, Texas, she had a love for life that was evident to her friends and family.


Barbara's life was one marked by love and dedication. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Terry Lee Shaw, and her parents, Evelyn and Greer Kent of Knoxville. Her sister, Alma Jean Kuszmaul, and her aunts and uncles, Patsy, Betty, Wayne, and John, also predeceased her.


She leaves behind a legacy of love and family, survived by her daughter Traci Brown and husband Mike of Cookeville, daughter Lynne Hughes and husband Wayne of Windsor, NC, son Michael Veit and wife Beverly of Sparta, and son Dick Veit of Marysville, CA. Barbara was a cherished grandmother to Cody Forester and wife Kelly, Cory Lawson and wife Katie, Sara Burgess and husband PJ, Taylor Brown, Alexander Brown, Andrew Brown and Halee Smith, Drew Giasson, Hannah Veit, Jordan Veit, Jennifer Malonjao and husband Phillip, Travis Pendleton, and Alissa Neher. Her great-grandchildren, Braxton, Taegan, Willow, Jolene, Kallista, Avery, Harper, Samuel, Palmer, Landry, Autumn, Allison, Scarlett, and Hayden, will also hold her memory in their hearts.


Barbara's professional life was adventurous as she spent many years on the road as a truck driver alongside her husband, Terry, and also worked as a waitress, where her warm smile and engaging personality were appreciated by many. Her work ethic and ability to connect with people were truly remarkable.


Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and she was often found cheering them on in their various endeavors. Barbara's interests extended to watching soccer, a pastime that brought her great joy and excitement. She was a woman who embraced life with both arms, and her enthusiasm was contagious.


A graveside service to honor and celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 12 pm EST at Loudon Memorial Gardens in Lenoir City, TN. She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Terry.


The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Barbara's amazing friend and caregiver, Amanda Knox, for her unwavering support and compassion. They would also like to acknowledge the wonderful nurses at Cookeville Regional Medical Center for their exceptional VIP treatment during Barbara's final days.
