Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Jean Biggers, 65 of Cookeville and formerly of Monterey, will be held Friday November 28 at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Horner Funeral Home. Graveside services and interment will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sand Springs Memorial Gardens. Rev. Eddie Way will officiate. Mrs. Biggers died Monday afternoon November 24, 2014 in the Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. Barbara was born October 6, 1949 in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Van Buren and Martha Jane Winningham Nickens. Barbara received her BS Degree in Education from Tennessee Tech in 1970. She retired in 2012 with 41 years of service (32 years at Uffelman/Burks Elementary in Monterey and 9 years at Baxter Elementary). Barbara was a devoted Christian who loved God and had a passion for children and teaching. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Van Buren Nickens, Jr. and brother, Bob Nickens. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Stonewall "Buzz" Biggers (whom she married April 30, 1983 in Monterey); son, Jonathan Biggers both of Cookeville; granddaughter, Olivia Grace Biggers of Mt Juliet; two brothers, Harry (Alicia) Nickens of Danville, KY and Jack (Karen) Nickens of Roanake, VA; three sisters, Peggy Walker, Nancy Boman, and Rosemary Winn all of Monterey; several nieces and nephews; and special friends of the heart, Vickie and Roger Hargis. Barbara's family will receive friends Friday from 3 p.m. until service time at Horner Funeral Home.
