Arthur "Lee" Piepmeier

June 2, 1947 — April 12, 2021

Arthur Lee Piepmeier, Jr., Chemist and Entrepreneur, of Cookeville, age 73, died Monday, April 12, 2021. Lee was born June 2, 1947 in Knoxville. He served in the Army in Viet Nam. Was a graduate of Tennessee Tech University and graduated with a MS in Chemistry. An innovator in the field of edible ink, he helped start and run multiple businesses in Cookeville. As an avid lifelong fisherman of the Caney Fork River, Lee took solace in the peace that the river brought him and entertained his family and friends with stories about his close connection with the Tennessee Wildlife. Lee was a musician and met wife Kelly Piepmeier while traveling the world as a guitarist in Up with People. Lee’s love of music continued and he loved playing in the band at Unity Church of the Cumberlands, where Kelly was the Minister of Music. Lee was active in the Cookeville Theatre scene for over 30 years, singing, dancing, building sets, and teaching others to love the theatre. He was a kind and giving member of the community and remembered for the many ways in which he would help others. Lee loved his family and put their well-being above all else. He was preceded in death by daughter, Alison Piepmeier, of Charleston, SC, and brother, James Piepmeier, of Evanston, IL. Lee is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kelly Piepmeier, of Cookeville, TN; his grandaughter Maybelle Biffle-Piepmeier, of Charleston, SC; his son, Arthur Lee Piepmeier III (Trey) and his wife, Olivia Piepmeier, of New Bedford, MA; his son, Aaron Piepmeier and his wife, Mary Piepmeier, and their daughter, Margot Piepmeier, of Hillsborough, NC; his brother, Joseph Piepmeier, of Woodbridge, CT; and his sister, Suzanne Dinwiddie, of Nashville. A Celebration of Life will be held Summer 2021 (date to be announced on social media and the Unity Church newsletter). Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
