October 15, 1932 — July 19, 2024

Florence Anne Turner Cartwright Smith, fondly known as Anne, who graced the lives of so many with her vibrant spirit, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024, in Cookeville, TN, at the venerable age of 91. Born in Edwington, OH, on October 15, 1932, Anne's journey was marked by her unwavering faith, her love for song, and the immeasurable love she had for her family.

Anne's life was a testament to her strength and kindness, reflected in her dedication to family and community. A beacon of joy, she is survived by her loving sons, Charles Eric "Rick" Smith, and James Michael Smith (Vanessa Myers), all from Putnam County; her cherished daughters, Tamra Lynn Smith Crawford with her husband Walter, Pamela Rose Smith Evans with her husband Monte, and Cheryl Dianne Smith Gantt with her husband Wayne, also all from Putnam County. She filled the maternal role with grace for her granddaughter Amy Smith Sheagren, whom she raised as her own, and she was the proud matriarch to 16 other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, surrounding them with boundless love and guidance. Anne's legacy will be carried forward by her sister, Ernestine Eliza Cartwright, and her brother, Rodney Cartwright with his wife Kristine.

Mrs.Smith was preceeded in death by her parents, Roy and Ruby Ellen Turner Cartwright; husband of 71 years, James Herman Smith; sons, Edward Eugene Smith and William Joseph Smith; sister, Martha Lorraine Cartwright; brothers, Ray Clifford Cartwright and Paul Cartwright; grandson, Brian Evans; stepmother, Gladys.

Her voice, a source of comfort and inspiration, could often be heard in the choir of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, where she remained an active member until the age of 90. Anne's unwavering faith shone brightly, and her contribution to the church music ministry, and years spent teaching Sunday school will always be remembered. Anne enjoyed mission trips to various places, sharing the Gospel and love of Christ. She was an avid gardener, a regular at the Senior Citizen Center, where she perfected her craft of painting and demonstrated her appreciation of art. She loved animals, being outdoors. Anne was a mischievous prankster, and rarely missed an opportunity to pull a joke on her family and friends.

Anne's memory will continue to echo through the lives she touched, the songs she sang, and the kinship she nurtured throughout her remarkable life. Her grace, her laughter, and her unshakable love created an enduring legacy that will be cherished forever in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
