Anne Hendrix

d. May 22, 2015

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others". – Paul's letter to the church at Philippi, Chapter 2, verses 3 and 4. Mrs. Anne Tull Hendrix, a faithful servant to her late husband, John P. Hendrix, her family, her community, and an avid sports fan, passed away on Friday, May 22nd. Born July 4, 1918, in McNairy County, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Tull. A member of what Tom Brokaw coined, ‘the Greatest Generation', Mrs. Hendrix witnessed during her lifetime a Great Depression - even though she was too poor to notice - two World Wars, the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall, and the dawning of flight to man walking on the moon. Described as "…caring about caring", Mrs. Hendrix worked every day of her life in service to others. She was incredibly talented at needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, crochet, machine sewing and used that talent to make clothes, Christmas stockings, bell pulls, blankets, and afghans. In addition to her creative skills, she often cooked for others, visited those who were sick or unable to leave their homes, cared for her friends and neighbors and made the love of Christ real, to all of those that she came in contact. Mrs. Hendrix was a charter member of Town & Gown, a member of the Embroidery Guild, the Mary Martha Circle, President of the Women's Society, 1960, was elected United Methodist Men's Queen Mother, in 1978, and served 59 years with the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Hendrix volunteered over 9,500 hours at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, starting in 1971. She helped open the Gift Shop in 1976 and volunteered in several capacities, observing its growth from a local hospital to a regional center, when she retired in 2009. In some notes she compiled about her service to the hospital, "This and my church has been the most important time of my life. Surely it goes without saying that John, Elizabeth, and Sybil were the most important part." Mrs. Hendrix is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Hendrix of Clinton and Sybil Fagan (Paul) of Richmond, Kentucky, two grandchildren, Tom (Veronica) and Marianne Martin, extended grandchildren Natalie Fagan (Brent Bardin), Michael Fagan, Tommy Fagan, Stephanie Cooper (Tom), Christi Fox, and six great-grandchildren, Brandi, Daniel, Grace, Mackenzie, Tabitha and Matthew. The family deeply appreciates the support of all staff and residents of Heritage Pointe, and all caregivers, especially Debbie Hood. Services will be Monday, May 25th, at the First United Methodist Church in Cookeville, TN. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m until 12 p.m., with a Celebration of Life service at 12 p.m., followed by burial at Crest Lawn Cemetery. Reverend Drew Shelley of Crossville and Reverend Whitney Mitchell of Cookeville will officiate the service.
