Funeral services for Anna Ruth Burroughs, age 80 of Cookeville, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 28 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Wayne Nabors and Steve Goens will speak and Michael Webb will officiate. Interment will follow at Cookeville City Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. and again Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Anna Ruth passed away suddenly at Cookeville Regional Medical Center Thursday morning December 22, 2022 surrounded by her family.
She was born September 26, 1942 in Monterey, TN to the late Alfred W. and Ella Roberson Welch.
Anna Ruth retired from the Putnam County School System after 25 plus years where she worked in the cafeteria at Cookeville High School and Avery Trace Middle schools. She was a former Putnam County Commissioner representing the 5th District.
Anna Ruth or the "Queen Mother" as she was affectionately known to friends and family, loved to be around people. She loved to dance and travel. She enjoyed serving on various boards and committees. She was a former member and Worthy Matron to Order of the Eastern Star Cookeville Chapter No. 152.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Cooper; son, Kevin (Tiffany) Burroughs both of Cookeville; grandchildren, Amanda Payne (Chad Jernigan), Ryan (Nadia) Burroughs, Hunter Burroughs, Jackson West, Curtis (Stephanie) Cooper, Cody (Ashley) Cooper, Bethany (Ben) Beasely, Chelsey (Michael) Odum; and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Edward Burroughs whom she married June 13,1960; sisters, Wanda Fleenor, Emogene Garrett, and Pauline Poteet; brothers, Willard, Clinton, Lee, Reed, James "Doc" Welch and an infant brother.
