A memorial service for Mrs. Alice "Ann" Newman, 84, of Cookeville will be held Sunday, September 4, at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Dr. Jonathan Nelms will officiate. Mrs. Newman died peacefully Thursday, September 1 at Heritage Pointe Senior Living Community. She was born January 23, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late George and Emma Innis Bolin. She attended Ward Belmont College and Vanderbilt University where she met her husband, of 30 years, Charles B. Newman. They began the Chuck Newman Insurance Agency in 1955, where they worked together for 27 years. They loved to travel and especially enjoyed visiting Eastern and Western Europe. Mrs. Newman was also involved in local horse shows, serving for a time as Secretary for the Putnam County Horse Show. After her husband's death in 1982, Mrs. Newman continued traveling to Europe, spending the next 20 years living in Spain and later Amsterdam. She returned to Cookeville in 2007 and enjoyed spending time with her family, watching sports and attending Covenant Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bruce A. Newman. She is survived by two sons, Richard (Kassandra) Newman of Cookeville, and Mark "Brad" Newman of Houston, TX ; daughter, Charlotte Newman Locke, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Windsor Ann (Travis) Fillman of Houston, Nathan Bradley Newman (fiance' Tate Neasbitt) of Dallas, Elizabeth E. (Motaz) Matar of Dubai and Madison Locke of Cookeville; one great-grandchild, Clementine Fillman of Houston; and former daughter-in-law, Beverly Newman of Houston.
