Althene Buchanan

Funeral services for Mrs. Althene Buchanan, age 84, of Cookeville, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday October 28 in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Stone will officiate. Interment will follow in Cookeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until time of services. Mrs. Buchanan passed away Wednesday morning October 24, 2018 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was born July 18, 1934 in Somerset, KY to the late Frank and Pearl Shadoan Smith. She and her late husband, Ephraim Buchanan, owned and operated B & H Shoes in Cookeville. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kellie Buchanan of Knoxville, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelia and John Blakley of Huntsville, TN and Debra and Dr. Hugh Thompson of Baxter; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Nick) Barca, Andrea (Jason) Smith, Dr. Ryan (Dee) Thompson, Dr. Amanda (Eric) Kirk, Dr. Andrew (Rachael) Blakley, Luke (fiance, Katelynn Rogers) Buchanan, and Ben (fiance, Katheryn Whitehead) Buchanan; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Sally Smith of Somerset, KY; and two sisters, Maxine Rexroat of Cincinnati, OH, and Fayrene Sexton of Lexington, KY. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Marion, Harold, Glenn, and Troy Smith. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
