Allene Cox

d. May 15, 2015

Memorial services for Aubrey Allene Jett Cox, 83, of Cookeville, will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, in the chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Mrs. Cox passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, in the Upper Cumberland Hospice House, surrounded by her family. She was born October 16, 1931, in Nashville, to the late Aubrey Allen and Lenous Murdock Jett. Mrs. Cox and her husband of more than 66 years lived in many different communities throughout Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi during his career with TVA. After their retirement, they settled in Cookeville in 1991 to live near their daughter and her family. Mrs. Cox was the consummate homemaker, mother and grandmother. Her first priority was always taking care of her family and making her house a home for family, neighbors and friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping, water skiing and spending time at the lake with her family and large groups of friends. She got the most joy in her later years being "Memaw" to her grandchildren, their friends and the children in her neighborhood. She missed very few of her grandchildren's school events, ball games or graduations, and she continued to be involved in their lives as they grew into adulthood. She was a wonderful cook, often sharing the fruits of her cooking with others, and she enjoyed art, sewing, needlework and word search puzzles. She was a member of Cookeville First United Methodist Church. Her family includes her husband, Lonnie Spain Cox, whom she married on December 24, 1948 in Franklin, Ky.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Beth Cox of Apopka, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Bob Brooksbank of Cookeville; four grandchildren, Derek Cox of Delray Beach, Fla.; Jeremy Brooksbank of Memphis; Lauren Cox of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Aaron Brooksbank of Cookeville; sister and brother-in-law Bobbi and Bill McCall of Mt. Juliet; sister-in-law Juanita Jett of Goodlettsville; and a number of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Allen Cox; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, James Jett and Jerry and Pam Jett. Rev. Whitney Mitchell will officiate the services. Anyone who would like to make a memorial donation in lieu of flowers is asked to contribute to a charity of your choice or to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at 14 Penn Plaza, Suite 1710, New York, NY 10122 or online at orcf.org.
