Alan Lloyd Carter, a beloved friend to many, respected businessman, and passionate outdoorsman, passed away peacefully at home in Cookeville, TN, on August 14, 2023. Born on March 23, 1964, in Cookeville, Alan was known for his strength, honesty, and generosity, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
Alan was the son of his late father, Bobby Lee Carter, and his loving mother, Orlene Tallent Carter. He was a proud father to his son, A.J. Carter, and a proud father to his daughter in law, A.J.'s wife Mary Claire Carter. Alan is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Carolyn Carter, Brian and Christie Carter, and Brent Carter, and longtime girlfriend, Amy Roberts.
Alan was a graduate of Cookeville High School, class of 1982, and continued his education at Tennessee Tech University, graduating in 1986. His love for the natural world and his strong business acumen led him to establish Cherry Creek Nursery in April 1987. As a keen nurseryman, grower, and businessman, Alan transformed Cherry Creek into a thriving local establishment. His dedication to his work was evident, and his commitment to his craft and generosity was admired by his peers and the community.
While Alan's work at the nursery was a significant part of his life, his passion for hunting and fishing was equally noteworthy. An avid and accomplished hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours in the great outdoors, relishing in the peace and tranquility it offered. His love for these activities was infectious, inspiring others to explore and appreciate nature's beauty.
Alan's strength was not only physical but also moral. He was a man of integrity, known for his straightforwardness and caring heart. He was always there for his friends and family when they needed him. His generous spirit shone through in every aspect of his life, from his business dealings to his personal relationships. He was a best friend to many, always ready with a kind but direct word, a helping hand, or a sympathetic ear.
Alan's life was a testament to the power of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of pursuing one's passions. His legacy will live on through the love he shared with his family, the friendships he formed, and his business. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alan Lloyd Carter's life was one well-lived. He was a man who loved deeply, worked hard, and played harder. He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his character and his generosity. His memory will forever be a beacon of strength, hard work, and love. May he rest in peace.
